From a Carousel and Gardens to Curtains and a Chair – Summer 2018

Summer 2018 flew by, but not without new paintings getting done.  From 5×7’s to large pieces, the paintings capture particular moments in time in the Watch Hill and Weekapaug communities. Here’s a selection:

Peter has had several people suggest that he paint the Flying Horse Carousel, a treasured landmark in Watch Hill. He finally got the chance.  The busy activity at the spot added to the fun in creating the piece.

You wonder why this piece is dated?  A groom on his way to the Weekapaug Inn for his rehearsal dinner stumbled upon Peter who was working on this piece.  The groom made an impulsive purchase, just asking that his wedding date be added — an easy enough thing to do!

The process of first hearing someone’s idea for a painting and then walking around a site with sketchbook in hand is an activity Peter never tires of.  That’s how this painting got its start.  But, this piece with a common enough beginning gave Peter a new challenge – that of painting quickly enough to capture a plant’s beauty before petals drop.

Peter got the opportunity to paint a traditional portrait this summer!  He never tired of these kids’ enthusiasm as they greeted a new day each morning. In that way, the children added their own kind of energy to the portrait process.
